Christmas is my family’s favorite time of the year and over the years we have made a point of looking for locations at home (Tanzania) that offer a different experience. We look for places that will surprise us and Christmas 2016 was no different. Last year, we spent our holiday in 3 locations. We started out at Kili Villa at the Kilimanjaro Golf Courses and Wildlife Estate in Arusha, then up the Pare Hills to my in law’s village where we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day with relatives and friends. Boxing day we drove back to Arusha to Ngara Sero Mountain Lodge. This post is about the breathtaking Kilimanjaro Golf Courses and Wildlife Estate.
The Villas offers full service with butler, chef and servers. The estate provides a protected environment for wildlife. Imagine waking up to birds chirping and the beautiful sight of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro right in your backyard. I’ve craved to once again have a cup of against that background. Because of the location of the villas, we were told of the variety of small game animals such as dik dik, push pig, jackals, genet cats to name a few. We were lucky enough to spot some dik diks and push pigs as well as zebras. There is a also some natural water features on the estate that provides a haven for birds. We saw weavers, sun birds and at night we spotted an owl on the first night.
It was such a soothing experience staying at a place where you are partly at one with nature. I remember one morning having breakfast and dik dik just stood at a distance from the house looking on, curious of who we were, not knowing our curiosity of him and wishing he would come closer for a good look and possible a photo opportunity, but that never happened. As fast as an eye blink he disappeared into the savannah.
The Villas don’t have a TV, which was great because we got to spend actual quality time with each other and with the kids. At first the kids were not impressed that there was no TV, but by day two they had discovered a stash of board games and books. They made up games and they had the best time ever; my daughter still speaks of the house in the jungle.
My favorite activities was after dinner, the grounds caretaker would light up a fire and we would put chairs around the fire and enjoy the night sounds of the savannah. The thing I enjoyed the most was seeing my children and niece enjoying every moment or exploring and discovery and asking lots of questions about the things they have seen and experience.
The picturesque Golf Courses offers a haven for avid and professional Golfers. It is the first 18-hole championship golf course in Tanzania. Its features and breathing taking the landscape where players can enjoy the spectacular view of Mt Kilimanjaro whilst practicing their shots, providing golfers with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. My husband and brothers in law enjoyed the cool Arusha weather as they perfected their swings.
I would recommend this location for anyone, not just the nature and or Golf enthusiasts. The estate being in the wilderness runs on generator power, so be sure for some power cuts at night.
Having said that, this is a place where your whole family can enjoy and relax, even mums!!!
